Meet Mark Bramble
Mark Bramble has dedicated more than four decades to the study of martial arts and over three decades to teaching practical self-defense, personal development, and traditional martial arts.
As the founder and head instructor of Top Defense Martial Arts & Combatives, his focus is helping students develop genuine skill, confidence, discipline, and long-term capability through structured, professional instruction.
Over the course of his martial arts career, Mark has trained extensively in martial arts that include Japanese Jujutsu, Ninpo, and modern self-defense systems.
He serves as the United States Shibu-cho (Director) for the Kobukan Kobudo Renmei and holds advanced teaching licenses, including Okuden Menkyo in Daiwado Jujutsu Meade-ha and Yagyu Shingan Ryu Meade-ha Kacchu Yawara.
His background also includes successful completion of the Gracie Combatives® Instructor Certification program, reflecting his long-standing interest in practical, pressure-tested self-defense training.
Throughout his career, Mark has taught thousands of students from diverse backgrounds, including business professionals, law enforcement officers, private security personnel, martial artists, and everyday men and women seeking practical self-defense skills. His experience extends beyond the dojo, having conducted seminars, corporate workshops, university programs, women's self-defense courses, and specialized training events throughout the United States.
Mark is also an accomplished author and educator who has published numerous books on martial arts, self-defense, and traditional Japanese fighting systems. His work reflects a commitment to preserving authentic martial knowledge while making it accessible and relevant to modern students.
What distinguishes Mark's approach is his belief that martial arts should be both authentic and practical. Training is rooted in proven principles, structured progression, and professional instruction—not ego, intimidation, or shortcuts. Students are challenged, supported, and guided through a process designed to build lasting skill and confidence.
Whether working with complete beginners or experienced martial artists, Mark remains committed to the same goal: helping each student become more capable, more disciplined, and better prepared for the challenges they may face both on and off the training floor.
